The walk begins at 9 AM and usually ends up between 11 AM and Noon. We will be getting together at 8 AM at Andover College for assignments and briefing. We need nine hams for the event. Currently, I have five hams signed up. We are looking for another four hams to round out the event. Our operational frequency will be 146.415 simplex.

There will be coffee and donuts before the event and a pizza feed at the conclusion of the event.

Posted by WA1RB on 2008/2/7 12:26:18 (0 reads)

The upcoming March meeting of the PAWA (Wednesday, March 5) will be a very special event as we welcome Larry Szendrei, NE1S who will share his presentation entitled "Rediscovering Pre-1947 Electronics - Characteristics and Use of the Vacuum Tube".

Whether you're a seasoned ham whose enjoyed the warm glow of those vintage "lamps" on a cold winter day or someone who's new to radio and/or electronics, this is sure to be an enjoyable event for all.

This presentation is open to anyone with an interest and there is, as always, no charge.

Please join us at the American Legion Post 35, 413 Braodway, South Portland on Wednesday, March 5th at 7:00pm

Promotional plug: If you enjoy this presentation and would like to see more events of this nature, the best way to help is to participate in the PAWA club. It's our members that make us what we are and we're happy to see our membership grow. Newly licensed hams (within the past year) are eligible for a complimentary first year membership... just show up and join!

Larry, NE1S, has recently updated his personal website, which includes some great examples of vintage and home brew gear. Of particular interest is the floor-to-ceiling Old Buzzard rig and the 1926 ARRL Handbook Regenerative Receiver. There's plenty of great pictures and history..... check it out!

... and thanks much to Larry for sharing this with us!

Check it out... : Home Brew Vacuum Tubes...

Posted by WA1RB on 2008/1/8 20:40:00 (0 reads)

Here's a simply amazing 17 minute video of a French ham's process for making his own vacuum tubes! This is probably one of the coolest things I've seen in a long time and he makes it look like a walk in the park!

Enjoy!
