The February PAWA meeting has been canceled due to the heavy snow we're receiving. A rescheduled date is possible, but not confirmed at this time.

The December meeting of the PAWA on Wednesday (12/01) will be our annual Pot Luck dinner and awards night.

If you are planning to attend, please let us know you are coming so we can better plan for how much to buy. The club will be providing the bread, salad, coffee and tea. We ask members bring a covered dish (either a main dish or dessert) to share. If you wish something other than coffee or tea, please bring what you prefer (non-alcoholic) or buy your beverages from the Legion cooler.

Please let us know how many folks you are bringing and what your are bringing (main dish or dessert). Please respond to me (bprumery@netzero.net) on or before Saturday, November 27, 2010.

The dinner is free for PAWA members and their immediate family. Non-PAWA members are asked to pay $ 5.00 per person to help defray expenses.

Also at this meeting we will be holding the formal elections for the 2011/2012 PAWA Board membership, including President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Chief Operator and two Members at Large.

Annual awards will be distributed, including the highly coveted "Ham of the Year"... Who will it be? Join us and find out!

Just a reminder that PAWA dues are due on or before Saturday, January 1, 2011.

Our membership year is calendar in nature (January through December). For those of you that have a free membership, it ends on December 31, 2010 unless you received your free membership after October of 2010.

If you are unsure when your dues expire, log into the PAWA web site (http://www.pawa-maine.org) and click on Membership Roster.

Dues for the PAWA are: Full membership: $ 20.00 and Associate membership: $ 10.00.

Dues may be paid at the December meeting to Jack, KC1UX or by mailing your dues to the PAWA post office box (Portland Amateur Wireless Association P. O. Box 1605 Portland, ME 04104).

Well Field Day 2010 has come and gone. The weather was quite nice, the radio conditions were better than last year and as usual, the company was exceptional! There was a decent level of curiosity among the "civilian" population and folks were not afraid to stop by and ask what it was all about. Radio operators included veteran communicators as well as some who've never touched HF before. We had representation from Cape Elizabeth and Cumberland County EMA (extra points!) and a great talk about Amateur Slow Scan TV from KR1ZAN (thanks Frank!... oh.. extra points there too!). There's no official count on the number of contacts made, but there will be. While the points for the contest are nice, the important thing is that we got out there, played radio in an "emergency" setting (no commercial infrastructure involved) and had some fun.

A personal thanks to all of the PAWA folks who worked hard to make this an enjoyable Field Day for me and all the others who showed up!

The January meeting of the PAWA will be on Wednesday, January 6th.
As Bryce indicated in a recent email, we've got a nice treat for this meeting!

Paul Alberghini, W1IMD, will present a program on his remote controlled station located in Hiram (at an old long haul microwave site). Paul lives in Cumberland and is able to remotely control his station in Hiram. Come to the January meeting and see how he does it!

We're looking forward to seeing what Paul has to show us :) Hope to see you all there as well !!
